I had saved up this series as I was sure I would love it simply based on all the good word around it, but ultimately left me with a weird taste in my mouth.

Overall it's a great action and gore packed story with an unusual Shonen protagonist who's moral compass is non-existent

So perhaps the issue, at least for me, lays more in the power level management of the series.

That aside, it was a unique series which I felt intrigued enough to continue in manga chapters.

Similarly, Kafka's experience as a disposal agent plays a big role in defining his uniqueness and sets him apart from other potential officials. But this feels useless when there are individuals like Kikoru who can eliminate a Kaiju using the exact same gear as everyone else, ignoring weak spots

The world building was unclear at times, for example when introducing the gear and ammunition the story failed to properly explain why is this ammunition particularly useful against Kaijus and why it is more effective when used by a stronger individual

The struggles portrayed by the protagonist as he faces that he is no longer the future, and is past its prime really hit close home, as I begin the journey into my 30s.

It made it relatable and inspiring, as this struggle felt genuine and I could perceive the author's own feelings on the matter

With a short season of only 12 episodes, this series was my second favorite anime of the Autumn-winter season right after Dan Da Dan.

It was something completely different from what I expected, but it was very fresh to see a Shonen series with a protagonist in his early 30s
