The Byronic Hero was codified & popularized by the characters in Byron's works, including Childe Harold, Conrad the Corsair, Don Juan, & Lord Byron's own public persona. However, earlier examples include Shakespeare's Hamlet & Macbeth, Werther by Goethe, & the Gothic villains of Anne Radcliffe.

Byronic heroes are characterized by their brooding, charismatic, morally ambiguous nature, and are a subject of fascination and debate. Some find them alluring, others criticize their flaws and anti-social behaviors. Namor of course fits these criterion to a T.

Continuing a story that began the previous issue, Namor takes on two Nazi u-boats single handed, sinking one and disabling the second. A rousing start as Namor fights the military of a WWII belligerent nation for the first time. It will, of course, be far from the last...

Truly a case of the more things change, the more they stay the same, this Arthurian version of Namor retains his noble bearing, hot temper, and utter disdain for both shirts and pants. What's he got under that scant robe? Clearly naught but his Atlantean pride.
