To speak like a married pair, even if only for tonight?” Namjoon turned then. “Enough to pretend this is more than an arrangement.” Jungkook felt tears prickle at the corners of his eyes. He knew of Namjoon’s demeanor. The representatives from both packs had told him as much. The letters Namjoon had sent him had shown it too. “I missed you.” The whispered voice in his ear, breath that isn’t there sending shivers down Yoongi’s spine like electricity through a broken wire. It’s definitely Hoseok. Relief floods through him so intensely he has to grip the bar to keep steady, his knuckles white against the dark wood. Two weeks of worry, not knowing if Namjoon could actually break the curse, wondering if he’d lost his boyfriend to some ancient magic, imagining worst-case scenarios that involved eternal imprisonment and him spending the rest of his very long existence drinking alone in various bars while slowly going insane from loneliness. All of it dissolves in an instant, like sugar in hot coffee. “—and I thought maybe we could check out that new club downtown after this.” Yijeong is saying, but his words fade into background noise. “Did two weeks really make you feel so bored you’d come here and hope a human would entertain you, hyung?” That teasing tone, weightless as if even death couldn’t tether it, stirs up an aching reminder of how badly he’s missed it. Yoongi gives the subtlest shake of his head, hoping Hoseok can see it. The last thing he wants is for his newly freed ghost boyfriend to think he was actually interested in this stranger’s advances. Because he wasn’t. Isn’t. Will never be, especially not when the alternative is sitting right here invisible and perfect and finally, finally free.
