We tried resoldering a couple times, but it made no difference.

It's still resting in a box, waiting for another attempt. I don't even know if it's bricked or if it's just improperly soldered, so I'm afraid I can't give any useful advice.

The functioning one made it worth it, so good luck to you !

Desoldering the old sticks and resoldering the new ones was a VERY long undertaking for these noob hands, and I had no idea I had done something wrong until it just refused to boot when I plugged the battery back in.

The LED on the MB turned on, but controller LED didn't and no input was going out.

Yooo, that's sick !

I soldered mine with TMR sticks but had no idea paddles were doable too !

(we did cook the other controller in the attempt, though... So I'll practice on easier stuff before I try things like that again)
We somehow managed to repair a PS5 Dualsense controller with a terminal case of stick drift as our first soldering project (bad idea).

It took like 4h with my dad's help, but I am now the proud owner of a completely drift-proof PS5 controller !

More pics in thread...

You DID come in boldly asserting this WASN'T a PC :p

Power or cost are irrelevant to what a PC is. There are PCs weaker than consoles, and GPUs cheaper than this will cost.

A console is a PC that's locked down to only run manufacturer-approved software.

This thing runs Linux with a desktop environment and you can install anything on it. 100% a PC.

I didn't know that was an option ! How much are those ?
November 14, 2025 at 4:15 PM
If the 2.0 is going to be as good as the Steam Deck's controls, then it'll 100% become my daily driver, even though I already have a modded PS5 controller with TMR sticks.

The 4 back buttons, track pads and capacitive sticks along with all the options Steam gives you for virtual menus and macros...
November 14, 2025 at 3:50 PM
The lack of options for symmetric sticks is the bane of my existence.

I don't know how everyone else does it, but my hands are symmetrical and so it just makes sense that the controller I'm holding should be too.
November 14, 2025 at 3:48 PM
If that controller's even half as good as the Steam Deck's, then sure...

But ngl, the Steam Frame is such a cool piece of kit, it's the winner in my heart.

Have you used a Steam Deck ?

Unless they snuck in trackpads, back buttons, capacitive sticks and handles in Xbox controllers while I wasn't looking, this is an upgrade.

It also matters which Xbox controller we're talking about, because those didn't have a gyro either prior to the Series X.
November 14, 2025 at 3:40 PM
Also I have yet to see a 3rd party come close to the PS5's haptics and trackpad.

I've been wishing for years for something like the PS5 controller except with back buttons, but there was no way in hell I'd hand over 240€ for Sony's Dualsense Edge.

So yeah, that new Steam Controller is just it.

...or you could look things up before spreading misinformation on the internet.

There's a billion interviews with the in-house designers at valve that say (and show) they designed a custom fan and built the whole system around it. It also has their proprietary receiver built-in for the controller.

...It's literally a PC ?

They got better and Nvidia got slightly worse since then.

Equivalent cards are basically the same except Nvidia usually has better RT perfs and AMD has more VRAM for the money.
