I'm sure there are other formats that encourage depth, dialogue, and accountability. Integrity matters. And I think an "artistic intellectual" would know better and know that their responsibility is not necessarily to be seen, but rather to illuminate what power prefers to keep hidden

Seales shouldn't have sat at this table given that she makes art that educates in other meaningful ways. Public intellectuals should be rejecting performative platforms that prioritize outrage over understanding, and instead choose substance over visibility.

Anyone who claims to be a public intellectual should refuse to become a servant of the spectacle. They must commit not only to telling the truth, but to telling it in ways that resist distortion, commodification, and co-optation.

I do not believe anyone who spends the time watching 20vs1 debates are able to engage critically. Rather they are engaging with "volume" (folks are loud and talking over one another) and not theory/philosophy/critical thought.

For Amanda Seales to refer to herself as an "Artistic Intellectual, that makes art that educates" (I'm not disputing this) - she should be a bit more responsible.

Do not get me wrong. I think debates can be useful in certain instances but when it's made a spectacle, it depletes its utility. "20 vs 1" debates are just ideological theatricality. Unbalanced and sensational.
