Urban planner: intensification, land/housing economics and zoning reform. Maritimer in exile, repentant car nut.
Something this large & powerful combined with the certainty its operator has problems with emotional self-regulation - terrible combo

Hmm. Anyone else feel like a little seafood linguine? This seems like a safe and quiet spot...

I have a pretty varied palate, but I like my seafood cooked, and gold ice cream just falls into the "what kind of asshole...?!" category as far as I'm concerned.

This 302 had a pretty good coffee-warming surface.

Round 1: 3rd in class, 18/61 PAX. The car's actually stock except for 245 tires that bump me into STX/DST.

Are there any #weirdcarbs autocrossers?

A familiar story. Even YIMBY darlings like Auckland are not immune to this dynamic. We have to reckon with the equity implications of letting privileged low-rise areas veto sensible land use decisions.

Looking forward to seeing what kind of uptick the Ottawa ZBL incents.

Here's an example. Most of the streetscape features you cited are in evidence and, I agree, are doing much more for the user experience - but this guideline relates upper-storey setbacks to human scale.

(Clearly has something to do with sunlight, but then why not just write the policy that way.)

It appears often in policy and guidelines but is rarely defined clearly enough to be useful. Here's an example: OK, nice definition, but what does "acceptable to public perception and comprehension" mean in objective practical terms?

Now, as always, is a good time to read The Rebel Sell, which highlighted the dead-end nature of "leftism as counterculture" twenty years ago.

You have a garage that can fit only 4 race cars, those are :

Le Mans Prototype
Touring Car
Single Seater
Rally Car

What you picking? Here’s mine ⤵️

Flight delayed, but I have inadvertently taken a very glamorous photo of this mediocre airport bar

Here's my BRZ. We got off to a rough start with engine problems but it has won me over with its kickass dynamics on autoX and trackdays. Still mostly factory.

I stayed in an airbnb this summer and in my (overall fairly positive) review I mentioned that the building would benefit from some upkeep. The host made a very tart reply about my unrealistic expectations.

Lady, the fuckin' DOOR fell off as I was checking out.

Apropos of nothing... Ottawa's built heritage subcommittee is going to be discussing this on Tuesday:

Suppose even a utopian car-free future: a large unprogrammed space with an opening to the outdoors is going to be an attractive feature! Store bikes in there, building projects, do band practice. Whatever.

Heck, medieval peasants had indoor garages for their livestock before cars even existed!

The negative impact of street parking & front-yard parking is greatly overstated by US/CAN progressives, mostly based on aesthetics or a transitive distaste for car dependence. But walkable cities in Europe still have car storage all over the damn place. The design/governance problem lies elsewhere.

Probably should have been my E30. Too many little issues to chase & not enough time/money/space to keep up... but in retrospect there's no substitute for loving a car this much and given another shot I'd have held onto it.

Truly an awful beer, but cool race car and livery.

Agree. Here's one I spotted last month in Halifax. Just an incredible presence.

This was a great reddit comment from a guy whose post history suggested he was a pretty experienced HPDE coach:
