Have some snow fall for the day. Second snow of the season, as Monday was the first. This one though is supposed to bring almost a foot by end of day

I love the camera on my phone. The fact that these two pictures were taken right after the other and the camera itself adjusted the ambient light levels to enhance the moon picture is fantastic.

The Chugach Mountains behind Anchorage. Hundreds of peaks and result of the Alaskan Plate slamming into and dragging across the Pacific Plate as it under. Like shoving paper against a wall it causes these rocky peaks.

Here you can see Anchorage from the air. It's got over half the population of the state in it at 300k people but spread out over 1000 square miles. The Anchorage bowl is massive so while you can see downtown pretty well, the rest of the town is buried in trees mostly. Also the mountians behind.

Valdez is a port town. Fishing and tourism are two major factors for it. But the oil companies keep most everyone else employed. I was here doing work for the city. Had an dinner of okay coconut shrimp and a decent sockeye salmon.

Reason 3. It's the future birthplace of Will Riker. They even want to put a statue up in his name. alaskapublic.org/2024/02/15/h...

Reason 2. In the 1964 earthquake dubbed The Good Friday Quake. Valdez was destroyed by a tsunami. You can actually find old B&W footage from the short of the ocean collapsing and swallowing the boats. They move the town 4 miles down to an area better protected from water after words.

Wish we could do videos too here.
Valdez is special in three ways. 1. It is the end of the Alaskan Pipeline. The Pipeline runs crude oil from the north tip of AK oil field across the while state to here where it is shipped for processing on the west coast.

Work took me to another trip. Here are some pics! This time it's Valdez. I flew in but when I went to Glennallenn, Valdez is about 2 hours south of it through a dangerous mountain pass that routinely is closed during the winter months due to avalanches

Various pics from Glennallen.

Matsu glacier. Used as a location during filming of Star Trek VI. It's receded quite a bit and does look better in the summer but still one of the easier ones to walk to as you can see from how close it is to the highway.

Drove out to Glennallen for work. It's within view of the 2nd highest peak in Alaska. St. Elias at 18k ft. It was clear and crisp and cold!

This is a message that resonates, for I too, at any given moment, may contain traces of Cherry Pepsi. At a local Holiday gas station

I travel all over the state for work, fixing and maintaining mail machine. These little small community post offices are always fun and uniquely Alaskan, even if it takes hours of travel for minutes of work.

I am at a haunted gold rush era bar in Ketchikan. I normally stay at the attached hotel as well so I can wander the halls looking for spooks but it's off season and closed.

Had to stop by the sotr for some supplies and yeah...it's pricey.

And even during the off season those tourist cruises come through quite often. Never been on one myself (I get sea sick) I understand how important the money from them can be

Having a nostalgic lunch while out shopping. Eating at Arctic Roadrunner. Been a staple of Anchorage since 1964. They have filled the place with mementos of Alaska and Alaskans. Been coming here since I was little and they still only take cash or check

At least got two pics of SeaTac from the air. And I have a flight back to Anchorage leaving tonight. Ketchikan trip has been scrapped. Will be home around 2 am...so 22 hours of travel...nothing accomplish except I'm now very tired and NOT in a company paid hotel.
