I suppose it's a testament to how farcical it all was knowing that Alice Walton, billionaire heiress to the Wal-Mart fortune and founder of Crystal Bridges Museum, was co-opting the historical legacy of the New Deal's art centers as an act of self-aggrandizement at roughly the same time

even now I still don't think the GND's loudest proponents had a very keen understanding of just how central the New Deal's art programs were to the whole project when funds were first being doled out
