Hmm, does that say more about the platform he said it on, or the audience he's built?

Makes me think...
Carl Schmitt's friend/enemy distinction is looking at Wilhoit's law from the other side.

A distinct possibility, and I'll admit that I'd find it quite cathartic...
Provided no one gets seriously hurt, and pending how the cult responds.

That response exposes a view that there's no difference between a pointed question, and a personal insult.
Extend from there, and there's a belief that reality is malleable. "alternative facts" and all that.
That, in turn, speaks to a society that lets this malfunction not only survive, but thrive.

Sorry for the wall of text. I just kept going there, huh.

This being instinctual, it's not a question of restraint. I don't really see anything that's changed on that score.

That said, it would be pretty funny to see him lose it that bad. Though he's also famously a coward, so I figure he's internalized avoiding anything physical, too.
November 19, 2025 at 7:39 PM
He's a fourth grade bully who appeals to people who can't imagine better for themselves to be toadies for a fourth grade bully. Underneath it all, it's all he's ever been. That's why when pressed, if he can he lashes out like "quiet piggy" or some other insult, and if he can't he backs down (TACO).
November 19, 2025 at 7:39 PM
But there's no actual STRATEGY behind it. He's just bumbled into this amount of power by being a natural manipulator and seizing on the republican base, running out in front of what the GOP had ever been willing to do.

to the belief that all democracy is a sham and he, as a superior breed, should control things in a "managed democracy" like Russia. It fits neatly with his hero worship of strong-man dictators like Putin who maintain token opposition so they can wear the clothes of liberal democracy to placate folks
November 19, 2025 at 7:39 PM
I think he has internalized the thought that he's a superior breed of person and he should inherently be better at things than other people. Any failures of anything he says is because of lesser people conspiring against him. He also fundamentally does not believe in democracy. He subscribes more...

I think this reaction isn't an example of restraint, but his instinctual coping mechanism. His manipulative savvy is something that the environment has sculpted him into from narcissistic sludge to a political cult leader. I don't think there's a considered design to what he does, just instinct.
November 19, 2025 at 7:39 PM
He has more instinctual savvy than to lunge, but it is interesting to see what he does when he's really pressed. Remember when he just walked away when pressed? Considering his incredible misogyny, I'd be curious what flavor of escape he'd use against a woman.

Would that have overcome the difference? I don't know. But I do believe this is a long standing weakness of the Democrats completely ceding the zeitgeist to the point where some GOP talking points become cultural assumptions.
November 19, 2025 at 5:47 PM
Soft disagree.
These are absolutely factors, but Democrats seem to have subscribed to "deliverism" for far too long, the thought that if you perform, people will credit you. No effort to TAKING the credit. I consider this naive. Democrats did have untapped agency in driving public perception.

I'd say it's secondary.
Primary is to spread disinformation. The secondary serves to distract from the primary.
