Hey there fellow knitters! 🧶🧶

I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be hosting a special session during Hamilton Art Week this June!

We'll be diving deep into the rich history and meaning behind Nsibidi and Uli symbols — and then bringing them to life through a hands-on knitting class.

I felt it would be the perfect complement for the front of my sweater, protecting the Ikenga on the back. 🧿🧿🧶

I was searching for inspiration for the front of my sweater when I came across a post by a talented friend of mine that instantly resonated with me. I reached out to ask if I could knit the design, and he kindly agreed. Bringing this idea to life was such a joy!

First daughter: Àdá.

I’m the Àdá of my family, but here’s a funny story—when I visited my village, everyone kept calling me Àdá, and I didn’t respond because I didn’t realize it was for me 🤣. That’s the day I learned what Àdá meant 🤣.

Knitting my thoughts into reality is a powerful expression of myself. I affirm who I am through it. This piece is a story of me in every way. Let's start with the sleeves.

Powerful and Influential woman, Agunwanyi!

Nsibidi is my passion, and I am proud to embrace it in my work.

Notice it's wrapper, I was inspired by the picture of the Ukara cloth. 😊

I designed a unique knitted Ikenga featuring knitting needles on the left and a yarn ball on the right. The face of the Ikenga showcases an Nsibidi symbol for strength, blending culture with the art of knitting for a modern twist on this ancient symbol.

HAVE YOU SEEN A KNITTING IKENGA?
.
Ikenga is a symbol of personal strength, success, and achievement in Igbo culture, often represented as a carved figure. Traditionally, it embodies the power of an individual’s right hand, which is used for action, creativity, and hard work.

I'm new on here and a little shy but I wanted to share a cardigan I designed and knit. It took about 3 years of researching the Nsibidi/Uli/Akete cloth motifs on it and I also wrote an article about it with Digits and threads!!
