My roommate used to give me “knight odds” or “bishop odds” in chess by playing down that piece, and I always felt the games were pretty interesting and satisfying (I usually still lost, but I could give him 7 or 8 stones comfortably in go, and I’ve always been curious which handicap was bigger).

Getting to that moment, and the moment a little bit before in the rainbow woods, where the game starts incorporating full-screen graphical effects as part of the narration, was such a delight to experience the first time I got there.
