Science is a human right.
KiCADs schematic editor is also quite workable and you can theoretically run ngspice straight from the schematic, though that seemed a bit finicky last I tried. Should probably figure it out, because I definitely agree that with LTSpice you spend more time fighting the interface than your design.

What I find the most funny about those things is that they are seemingly super cute, almost like they were designed for children, yet come with a lonely bridge humbucker sort of screaming "shred me!" just so you don't get a wrong idea.

Isn't that basically every song?
(says the person that usually plays guitar or keys)

Seriously, get good at bass and other musicians are going to love you, because it's just SO good to play when you know the bassist (and drummer) are going to keep you out of trouble.

I still want to emphasize that finding a good position for your hand matters. Wrist angle is important, but also it's generally easier to reach (and takes less finger strength) if your thumb supports from behind (not around) the neck maybe around opposite to your middle finger or so.

And just to be clear, I'm right-handed and there's no physical difference in size between my two hands, literally the only difference is that my left hand has been given a bunch of workout on the fretboard while the right hand has none.
November 14, 2025 at 12:25 AM
So here's the thing: I only measure about 21cm between index and pinky! So I probably don't have that much bigger hands, it's just that my fingers have got more exercise stretching. In fact my right hand (that's not been trained) can only do 16cm from index to pinky! So really you're probably fine.
November 14, 2025 at 12:21 AM
Either way, I'd just give it a go. With practice what first seems impossible might still become something you don't even think about when find the right technique (don't forget you don't necessarily need to hold down a note except when you're actually playing it) and your fingers get used to it.
November 13, 2025 at 11:43 PM
Hold on, is this with fingers just spread straight as far as you can go? What's the 19cm number then?
November 13, 2025 at 11:29 PM
So even though I don't really play bass as such, based on experience with guitar, I'd guess your fingers are probably fine and you might want to explore how the rest of your hand is positioned, because finding the right angle makes a HUGE difference in terms of how far you can reach.
November 13, 2025 at 11:05 PM
Something that's not very obvious though is that how far you can reach on the neck depends a LOT on exactly how your hand is positioned. Most people playing either bass or guitar tend to blame their fingers, but often it has more to do with how the wrist is positioned.
November 13, 2025 at 11:03 PM
My index to pinky when stretching is about 19cm and while I don't have a 34" bass around to try, estimating from a 25.5" guitar neck I'd say I could probably reach 1st & 5th frets on the bass at the same time if my pinky had the strength for those strings.
November 13, 2025 at 11:00 PM
I think that's part of why tabs are so popular: they let you read the fingering as relative (eg. it's easy to read -12-10- as "go down two frets"), but at the same time they give you a pattern on which note goes on which string.
November 12, 2025 at 1:25 AM
Reading by interval works really well on strings when you're mostly playing one note at a time. Reading as actual notes works much better on piano. Guitar then is in this weird place where neither is ideal, because you need to play multiple notes, but these also need to be on different strings.
November 12, 2025 at 1:21 AM
Guitar is usually notated such that you would play one octave below what is notated, but if you want the same actual pitch as middle C on a piano, then 1st fret on B string, 5th fret on G, 10th fret on D, 15th fret on A or 20th fret on low E.

I think the white pickguard really makes it look a lot better.
November 10, 2025 at 9:37 AM
That said, my understanding is that Telecaster people are a bit weird in general, they apparently do crazy things like actually touch the tone pot.
November 10, 2025 at 8:38 AM
Well, on most guitars the difference between bridge and neck pickups is fairly obvious. With combined positions though (such as the Telecaster "mid" position) it depends a lot on the pickups and setup. If one pickup dominates the mix, it tends to sound the same as the dominant pickup alone.

I also want to add that what I really like Beyerdynamics (beside the fact that it says "made in germany" and doesn't fall apart when you look at it) is that they are not just nice sounding but also super comfy.
November 8, 2025 at 7:35 PM
Based on the measurements below they aren't too different even though apparently the 48(?)ohm driver is different. The "Pro" though is available in 32, 80 and 250ohm variants. Most likely they all sound fine, because Beyerdynamics knows their stuff (my current phones are DT880Pro ❤️, 250ohm I think).

Sure, don't get me wrong, I don't want to judge too much from one photo anyway and there's some variation even within what would be considered "correct" grip, but while you want a delicate grip, it need not be "too delicate" or it can become exhausting to your fingers. More relaxed is better. 😉

If I grab a bow like I was taught to, I can play almost anything with my pinky pointing straight into the air. Obviously you don't want to do that, you want the tip of the pinky still on top of the bow, but it's mostly just my thumb holding the bow with other fingers keeping it straight.
November 8, 2025 at 3:20 PM
If you feel like you need to use the muscles in your pinky, then I think you might be holding the bow wrong. It's a bit difficult to see from the picture, but I think you might want to grab the whole thing just a little bit deeper into your hand, so that middle and ring just rest over it.

I find that for me at least this greatly reduces the "straight scale syndrome" of improvisation, because once you know how to play a scale in various patterns with ease, you can then mix and match fragments of those patterns to build more interesting melodies as you're improvising.
November 7, 2025 at 8:52 PM
If you're just playing scales "as-is" like 1234,5678 then make sure to also play them using different patterns like 123,234,345, 1231,2342,3453 or (my favorite) 1324,3546 and so on. This is more difficult at first, but it teaches your brain and fingers to navigate the scale in different ways.

Ofcourse the closely guarded secret is that about 90% of "the tone" actually has nothing to do with the gear and everything to do with the person holding the guitar. 😛
