As well as other core aspects of Christianity like God shaping the world not being canon (the big bang and evolution are shown), I think we can assume Biblical figures existed in DW but are not actually connected to divinity/God, but were just people that got embellished in legend

Yeah, I thought the ending might be controversial to Christians with the star being a sci-fi thing rather than a sign from God like in the Bible, but I didn't expect it to be controversial to atheists, especially with Jesus already being canonized in earlier episodes
