I love the idea, thinking inflatable and the old helium tank trick to inflate yourself as a piece of the show. colorful with the multicolored balloons too if you go classic clown route.

You should try a helium tank for the feel of the different gas. I used to have a black suit and the helium was a nice cool feeling in the hot suit.
