I've really wanted a project to use both my music and programming knowledge and the video came along at the perfect time as my college semester was ending.

I also had never reverse-engineered save formats like this, so it was a lot of fun figuring it all out!

I ran into a lot of issues trying to get it where I wanted, such as the drum tracks not being stored as the actual General MIDI notes corresponding to each sound.
Even the 3DS version's MIDI export doesn't play drums correctly!

This has a built-in remapping function with a config to fix it.

Very nice! I've been looking at it and making a little progress deciphering the format but I had a bad headache last night so had to sleep 😅
I might still work on it on my own though tbh cause it's a cool little exercise and I feel like I have to prove to myself that I can do it 😭
