RAGS make paper,
PAPER makes money,
MONEY makes banks,
BANKS make loans,
LOANS make beggars,
BEGGARS make
RAGS.

Found in the opening pages of Paper-Making by Jules Heller. This quote goes so hard.

Thinking about the oil derricks that were used in East Texas during the oil boom. Some of these photos are wall to wall platforms!

A lot of money was made in this mad rush of exploitation, and it's made even crazier by the previous timber rush in the region.

Wrote up a blog post on our recent trip to Big Thicket National Preserve! We saw pitcher plants, we saw a snapping turtle, we saw a gulf coast toad! And a few notes on the visitor center and its relation to the Museum of Jurassic Technology.

Took our Pitcher Plant Princess print out to Big Thicket to meet some lovely pitcher plants! I could not believe how many we saw along the Pitcher Plant Trail. (duh)

If you're ever in the piney woods of east Texas, you should check it out!

Banana Slug Notepads! Back in stock in the online store, and ready to decompose your To Do list. These lil pocket sized notebooks are great for emptying out your brain so you can just write it down and move on.

Little bud / 'pine cone' found on the forest floor at Redwoods National Park. Does anyone know what this is? I thought it might be from a redwood tree, but now I'm not so sure. Love the coloration and delicate feel it had.

Also from Battery Point Lighthouse: the old glass lantern! These are Fresnel Lenses, which I do not know much about, but they are very beautiful in person.

Magical view of the Battery Point Lighthouse in Crescent City, CA. Perfect place to cackle out Kate Bush lyrics while exploring the hill. The blossoms are a type of thrift? Ice flower?

Memento mori! The dimensional cameos on this tombstone are quite nice. Special attention to their luscious locks, which jump out at you with their high relief.

First time spotting a freshly molted cicada! Can't believe how vibrant the colors are -- they looked neon! iNaturalist suggests it's a "Dog-Day Cicada".

We usually end up creating a fair amount of drawings in the process from idea to print. Usually, we look at the print as the finished artwork, rather than a product of the drawing -- the drawing is a step on the way!

Thinking back on visiting the glorious banana slugs of the Redwoods in northern California 🥹

We made it a mission to try to find at least one each morning of the trip 🕵️

Memento mori! I like to look out for graphic motifs at the graveyard. This photograph came from an obelisk monument that also featured grain, lilies , and a draped curtain. Is it a handshake goodbye? A gentle caress? A connection beyond this life?

Inking process for the Queen of Petacles! Sarah likes to use the pentel pocket brush, but she's also trying out some new pens from jetpens.com - they're a good source for stationary supplies and illustration tools!

Behind the scenes look at Sarah illustrating our Queen of Cups art! Keyline drawn by brush pen, and then it gets scanned for digital coloring in procreate prior to screenprinting.

Queen of Wands (Fire Salamander Companion, elemental fire): Dominant feminine energy. Not afraid to demonstrate power or take on a challenge. She is a strong leader, a force of will, and can sustain in the face of adversity.

Which card should we print next?

Queen of Swords (Butterfly Companion, elemental air): Independent in thought with quick judgement. In her element, she is focused, witty, and too the point. The ability to tell it like it is, and get straight to the point.

Continuing with... the Queen of Pentacles! (Ibis Companion, elemental earth): Motherly, with practical energy. The ability to show love through service and competence in earthly concerns. A self starter, balanced in career and home life, with a private side. How neat!
