You don't "need" to purchase things per se. There are pages like dnd wikidot that show you all of the classes and their abilities. I'd suggest if you want something balanced, start by making it similar to another thing and adapt it from there.

Forbidden Lands looks interesting. YZE games seem great for survival settings. I've heard lots about people playing Mothership but I've never looked into it. Do you recommend it?

Same. I run a small discord for close friends and while we're all familiar with 5e, we've started branching out into others like Call of Cthulhu, Sword World, and GURPS just to name a few. So far we haven't done any long campaigns besides 5e, but one long one at a time is plenty haha

I love Call of Cthulhu! I recently got into it this year and its such a nice break from traditional fantasy. Plus, I love a good mystery
