But if there was no shutdown there would have been no negative sentiment either. The shutdown didn’t cause people NOT to vote for Democrats, but it didn’t cause them to vote FOR them.

Shutting down the government proved to provide no leverage. People would have voted as they did even if it didn’t happen.
