...When the ice thawed, they sank to the bottom of the lake, fossilizing there with debris from the asteroid. A palaeontologist (Jack Wolfe, 1991) found them 66 million years later, and since then other research has corroborated that the Cretaceous ended in the Northern Hemisphere's spring.
