It feels as if we're doomed, but we have to keep resisting. There's no one to come to our rescue except us.

Doing boring things to distract myself from the awfulness taking place in DC today. Boring activity #1 is teaching myself to use a Speedweave loom using my ugliest sock (it's a horrid color, but it's wool, so I'm trying to save it).

It's a cold day in Chicago (although it's nice that it's getting dark later each day). Dreaming of spring. This dahlia is Gitts Crazy. It was a late bloomer for me, but worth the wait.

I was gifted a boxed set of The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells, and I am totally hooked. So glad there are more books after these.

I received an email from Flower Feather Farm in Washington state, and this is one of the dahlia tubers they're selling with a fall shipping date. I really want this dahlia, but...not until spring. I don't trust myself to keep it in good shape until planting time.

Last week, raking leaves and walking to the library, wearing a lightweight jacket. Today I resigned myself to walking the local mall (brrr)!

I guess the sandhill cranes are finally feeling the cold as it moves south from Wisconsin and other parts north. I hadn't seen (or heard) many at all this fall, but today outside Chicago they were migrating in large groups. (The photo isn't mine. They were flying too high to get a good shot).

The last dahlia of the season. It's a bit pathetic (will be totally played out in a day or so) and the only photo I have is a bit blurry. I didn't even bother with a bud vase, but it was nice to have one last bit of color from the summer garden.

Almost time to dig up the dahlias here in Zone 5B. It was a good year.
