Last nights bat survey which was a lovely peaceful evening surveying a very old house and steading built in the 1660s.

Two common pipistrelles were foraging round this building, occasionally meeting in the middle and chasing each other furiously 😀

Designed a new information board for the Scottish Wild Beaver Group with lots of examples of science showing how beaver dams slow water flow, improve water quality and other beaver factoids. Really pleased with it and today it got its first outing at a Flood Awareness Event in Perth 😀 #beaver 🦫

Excellent day at the Scottish Bat Conference meeting up with friends and fellow batty people. Some great talks, ending with amazing stats on bat activity in beaver wetland - all species showed an increase but two species were amazing - 400% increase in barbastelles and 300% increase in long ears!

Did a bat stall today at the second Gardening for Wildlife day, this time in Auchterarder. Not so many people this week but we did have quite a few kids in and also the local mens shed who learned a lot more then they expected to about bats 🤪 #bats🦇

As one of the trustees of the Scottish Wild Beaver Group I was out tonight giving a talk about beavers. They learned about beaver ecology and how their wetland created by the dams is essential for biodiversity and prevents downstream flooding of towns and cities. Now they are beaver believers 😁

Gardening for Wildlife event in Blairgowrie today with various talks on seed saving, creating wildlife ponds, looking after our pollinators and of course by me: what you can do for your local bats! Save their food i.e. insects: no pesticides, protect your trees, turn off artificial light at night 😀🦇

Delighted to receive two more skulls from Nobone www.nobone.be which are ideal for teaching or educational talks/public engagement about bats 😀

The large one is common vampire bat (Desmodus rotundus) and the smaller is a common pipistrelle (Pipistrellus pipistrellus) - both 5x larger than real life
