As middle aged person you are functionally socially invisible. It is very liberating.

Just wait. Trump will continue to ruin things and they will claim that the Dems were really in charge the whole time because of their big 2025 takeover.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who struggles to pluralize seriesapodes. BTW, I enjoy your work and my teenager re-reads them over and over.

I am perplexed other authors defend this, especially those who write series. Why would I start a new series when the author has told me that I have no right to expect they will finish it?
August 17, 2025 at 2:21 AM
Well, there have been 2 very anticipated series (by Martin and Rothfuss) that may never conclude. I have limited reading time and I am often overwhelmed by the number of choices at a library or bookstore, to the point I may leave with nothing.

Back when I worked in restaurants we recognized that most dissatisfied people don't complain. They just don't come back. I'm not going to complain or confront authors. I'm just going to be less enthusiastic about book purchases and do it less often.

If a murder mystery trilogy promised to reveal the killer in book 3 and book 3 was never written, I would regret buying the first 2 books. I probably wouldn't buy other books from the author. If it was a common trend, I probably would stop buying books from that were part of an incomplete series.

I was teaching a GRE review course (I was 25 and my sole qualification was a good GRE score) and while covering vocabulary repeatedly pronounced “calliope” as cal-ee-ope.

But if we are going to say the reason we had for dividing sports in the first place, a belief that there were physical sex differences that justified it, are not valid, then we have to examine if there is a reason to do it at all.
May 12, 2025 at 4:49 AM
Gender roles are socially constructed. I am uncomfortable with the notion of telling someone who does not want to fulfill the gender roles usually associated with their sex that they aren't really that gender. It seems limited and, well, bigoted.

I have not found the phrases trans people exist or fix your heart, bigot to be very useful.
May 12, 2025 at 1:38 AM
I appreciate your posts and you explain things in a very understandable way, and the way you have just phrased this is the first time I’ve seen it written in a useful way that actually conveys the point.

Splitters!
April 7, 2025 at 12:49 AM
Like we probably would no longer say that all women should get a Pap smear and all men should get a prostate exam. And maybe we revisit the way we chose to divide sports based on the outdated assumption that those two groups had two distinct body types.
March 9, 2025 at 12:23 AM
Well if that’s true then it’s a massive change from the way we previously used those words to describe two groups with two distinct body types. And maybe we need to visit some decisions we made based on those outdated assumptions.
March 9, 2025 at 12:21 AM
You’re proposing a new philosophy that is a major change, and by definition most people have not adopted it yet. Suggesting that the only reason for that could possibly be bigotry is unlikely to convince them of anything.
