One thing that really improved my understanding of C was writing basic string and integer utilities myself before relying on libraries.
Came across my CS50 Scratch project today. Spent so much time on the design that the dynamite ended up flying in a straight line instead of a proper parabolic arc.

Got an Arduino UNO R4 WiFi as a Christmas gift.
For the first experiment, I implemented a binary count from 1 to 15 within a single byte.
What I enjoyed most was working with real hardware for the first time, designing a simple circuit and figuring out resistor values along the way.
