Impeachment is the absolute bare minimum of the options available, but the problem is they were working on the president's behalf so he will interfere in any efforts to investigate anything and use it as a distraction to further delay releasing the files.

That was not a result of the shutdown but it is a much better avenue to hope for and pursue a potential impeachment eventually.

I saw someone say that the democrats should file articles of impeachment based on Trump threatening to execute people for sedition, even though they knew it wouldn't pass, because its important to make noise, and this party really has trained people to love losing.

A false dichotomy is when you present 2 choices as the only options in a given situation. How is pointing out that this same tactic failed before a false dichotomy? If we are talking logical fallacies, that is called a straw man (where you misrepresent an argument to attack it).

Dems have been on TV calling republicans lying cheats for years. They did after the last impeachment failed. It doesnt work.

I don't think sayinh that the same tactic that failed last time is a losing strategy is jumping to conclusions. The complicated part is that republicans are fractured right now over epstein, but if they are not on board with impeachment then it would just drive them back together. Why do that?

How does forcing a vote they are going to lose not make them look week? We felt economic pressure in 2020 as well if you recall. You can talk about his rhetoric in the news, you can call out republicans for not saying anything. We dont have to force a vote to make this a public issue.

Forcing congress to publicly declare that this is not an impeachable offense does not serve anyone but Trump.

Its a big show and republicans are forced to fight any big shows, so this just pushed them into protecting trump as it will again if they are not on board. Performative impeachment votes are, at best, ineffective and, at worst, force republicans to unify to defend Trump.

I just want to point out that the last time they impeached him, their reasoning was that even though he was leaving office he might still run again and this would stop him. They made the noise and Republicans banded together against impeachment and it didnt help at all.
