loved SH2; never played the original. predictably enjoyed the atmosphere, performances, & themes, but also the exploration, puzzles, and combat!
KH1 still holds up; excellent combat, & perfect moody teenage tone. can’t wait to revisit KH2. (did try Chain of Memories, but 👎)

have some titles I’m looking forward to (some have already released!), but I’m sure that by EoY my list will be filled with titles I haven’t heard of yet!
but still, here’s some of what I’m looking forward to/ enjoying in ‘25!

@sunsetvisitor.studio I still think about your game everyday. can’t wait for folks to continue to discover and talk about your game!

there’s more ‘24 games I will play through the start of ‘25 but I’ll post my GotY list once I’m done with these! been a lot of fun cataloguing all of these this year ❤️

Quarry was fun to play with my wife, but I agree with criticisms that the ending is rushed.
LaD doesn’t resolve all its story threads, but the characters are so great and the combat is fun!
Golden Idol is a great improvement over the 1st, I frequently fist pumped the air when playing!

1000xResist is the game I’ve thought about the most in ‘24. powerful story about family, revolution, and so much more. can’t recommend it enough!
STS is still a classic, only eclipsed for me by Balatro.
DA:O is fascinating as a BG3 precursor. it’s aged a bit but was still a great experience!

Crab’s Treasure was wonderful, a bite sized game with cheeky humor and surprisingly tight combat.
Prodigal was redeemed by its “post-game”, it’s a fun Zelda-like with a sequel out now!
Elden Ring DLC - I was annoyed with the bosses and the open areas. but I still loved the legacy dungeons!

didn’t love Animal Well as much as others. good vibes, but missed some background music. chase sequences were tedious. liked 80% of the egg hunt, but got annoyed by the end.
Lorelei I liked much more. great setting and puzzles. more content than expected!

Haven’t played pokemon since gen 7, so Radical Red was a great way to catchup. It adds mons up thru gen 9 and puts them in Fire Red. Ups the difficulty too.
A Monster’s Expedition is a beautiful and funny puzzle game. Lots of cool moments of “oh, I didn’t know I could do that”!

Pacific Drive was sick! great premise, vibes, and soundtrack. surprisingly good story. runs got a bit long by the end.
played Year Walk in prep for Lorelei & The Laser Eyes, coming out next month. thought it was “just” neat, but the path for the secret ending elevated it for me.

Family & Rivals are both cool “Obra Dinn”likes. both are playable in one sitting. great music in both!
Linelight was a cute puzzle game, I played it while standing in lines @ PAX, w/o audio. so I missed out on some of the charm.

Fallen London is an evocative setting, but its monetization made me feel like the game didn’t want to be played.
not much to add to the Balatro discourse - game is so fun, so many synergies!
Room 3 was clever & had high production value, but navigating was too tedious.

dove deeper into Escape Room games, both on Steam & iOS. Exiled & Buried are both <0.5hr long. Cube Escape
turned me into a big Rusty Lake fan!

Sifu’s flow state is unlike any game I can recall recently. really fun to master. roguelike mechanics were clunky though.
Cultist Simulator was SO addicting. kept me up till 1am repeatedly. 34hrs to get a “major victory”. tedious by the end tho.

cheating a little as i started Void Stranger & Dragon's Dogma in Dec.
Like A Dragon Gaiden was great but really just has me hyped for LAD 8. (i've only played Yakuza 7, no other Kiryu games). i miss the turn based combat. but they still hit here w/ the emotion!
