I found out ArtFight had a little spring challenge going on, so I decided to have some fun.

I'm practicing
This is a simple comic on graph paper outlined in black pen. You can still see some of the pencil drawing underneath. Panel one(1): a person with their head tilted up and a hand gesturing away from them looking frustrated. The speech bubble says, "'I'm thinking of making a comic' I said" Panel two(2): The same person now looking straight ahead, arm no longer up, still looking frustrated. The speech bubble says, "Why did I say that?" Panel three(3): The person now with both hands up and looking down at them, once again still looking frustrated. The speech bubble says, "The times I've tried to make them I only found the experience miserable." Panel four(4) Their hands are back down, and the person is slumped forward. Their hair is in front of their face. The speech bubble says, "Drawing the same things over and over..." Panel five(5): The person is still slumped forward, but their head is tilted up enough to see their eyes. The speech bubble says, "..." Feeling... rough. Lately.
Panel 1: "I make art for a living." Drawing character art on a tablet Panel 2: "It feels... Questionable right now." Drawing interrupted by a news alert Panel 3: "So much horror and pain all around us... And it feels like it's getting worse every day." Cait staring at her tablet while news alerts ping loudly Panel 1: "What the hell am I doing." Cait takes off her glasses and rubs her eyes, the news alerts are louder and more frightening Panel 2: "I'm drawing pretty pictures while the world is on fire. While families are torn apart. While war and genocide become daily news. While my country is held hostage by bigots who want me and the people I love to die." Cait holds her head in her hands, overwhelmed by pinging alerts Panel 1: "But I can't think that way. ...not every day, at least..." Cait balls her fists, grimacing with tears on her face Panel 2: "I love what I do. And I work in entertainment - providing beauty and escapism for my audience." She puts her glasses back on and picks up her tablet pen, sniffling Panel 1: "We need art in turbulent times. People need escape from the horrors. And if I can provide that - then I'm being helpful." Cait starts drawing, but the pinging alerts are on the rise again. Panel 2: "I'm being helpful. I'm being helpful... I'm being helpful... I'm helpful... Helpful..." Its mouth is open, and you can see its sharp teeth.

This!! And there ARE tools out there to assist disabled artists and creatives (from ring splints to eye tracking), and we could always do with more! BUT… AI is certainly not one of them! I say this as a disabled artist.

Being anti-ai is not ableist. What is actually ableist is to suggest that disabled people need to resort to plagiarism and theft to create art.
