i just put together that the Anne Marie Lastrassi conspiracy is probably why Beyoncé sings in Italian on Cowboy Carter. Our petty queen.

i had an international/exchange student this semester who is returning to their Japan over the summer.

given that context, I told them they could do one of their last 2 speeches in Japanese if they wanted since that's the mode their public speaking would likely take.

my most common feedback to authors in reviews:

"the citations are overwhelmingly white. if you're going to engage [marginalized concept/method/theory/framework], then your citations should reflect that same commitment."

I don't understand why it's so hard to understand

advice from the talc powder lawsuit trenches: please make and keep a list of 1) all your addresses from birth on, 2) all your employment from birth on, 3) how many times you buy a product per month from birth on, and 4) how and where you apply baby powder from birth on. 🤪

to encapsulate having adhd as an academic, this is the process one (1) essay/article idea has already taken and it's not even close to done:
-wrote about inertia
-"hey what else is in newton that's affect-y?"
-reading newton (w00f)
-theorizing the Newtonian forces via affective rhetorical theory

my mom was part of the talc lawsuit against J&J in Georgia. the number of people involved in this suit (client, attorney, and otherwise) who don't know the difference b/w reply and reply all is very concerning. (and annoying).

me: "really? cause, *I* do."

i'm genuinely curious: if you watched #ANTM growing up, is there anything from the show (e.g. smizing) that cross your mind whenever you're posing for a picture or looking at a picture?

I've been thinking about safety, leaving, staying, exile, asylum, displacement, for academics, journalists, activists, etc etc.

One thing the heat of this moment is doing-- is revealing the inequities and exploitative nature of academia.

This thread nails it.
I’m not judging individual scholars for leaving the US for theoretically safer universities.

I’m judging the rest of you for not noticing or caring that roughly 75% of your adjunctified colleagues have neither the putative protection of academic freedom nor the means to leave.

A whole group chat
In 25 years of covering national security, I’ve never seen a story like this: Senior Trump officials discussed planning for the U.S. attack on Yemen in a Signal group--and inadvertently added the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...
The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans
U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. I didn’t think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.
