The unit of account in most places is dollars. A conversion from dollars to Joules cannot be done one-to-one, but even just placing the two things side by side reveal interesting relationships.

The map (fiat) is not the territory (the physical economy, real energy inputs). What happens when your unit of account can't accurately model the work that needs to be done?
