#AAFS2025 was so fun! While I did get food poisoning the last day 😭 the few other days there were amazing. It’s always so great seeing online friends!

Life has been busy lately! I had the amazing experience of being an advocate for #TRIOprograms in DC. Sharing my story with senators was a great experience. Without TRIO I would not be where I am today.

Growing human proximal tubule cells is always so interesting. These fuzzy areas are called domes. They form when the cells are actively transporting water!

Amelia discovered the space under the fridge today. She has crammed all her toys in there and tried fitting herself as well.

Today was the last day of the semester for the forensic capstone students! They each took the stand for mock court room testimony. I had a great semester with them and I’m excited to see where they go!

For my research I grow RPTEC/TERT1 cells, which are immortalized human proximal tubule cells. Then I grow UROtsa arsenite transformed cells (pictured below) which are immortalized cells from the human urothelium! Using arsenite makes this a great model for bladder cancer.

The next few weeks of the #forensicscience capstone course was spent in the lab! They started by identifying adult flies under the microscope. Then they performed DNA extraction on fly larvae followed by gel electrophoresis to identify the species.

After I stopped being an autopsy technician in September, I started as a TA for a forensic entomology capstone class! The first few weeks were spent in the field studying decomposition rates of fetal pigs and catching insects to study in the lab.
