Interested in lots of -ologies. I am happiest when I’m in nature. Disappearing into the forest is my ideal vacation. When I’m home I’m usually in the garden.
There’s a metaphor here somewhere. #photography #urbanphotography

Been reading a lot more this year. How do I rank books now? If it was so good that I didn’t think about current events while reading it’s at least a 4. #booksky

I used to read constantly as a kid. We went to the library multiple times a month and I stocked up. Smart phones, work, school, and the state of the world took a toll and I stopped for a long time. Trying to get back to it. Anyone looking for a reading buddy? #books #storygraph #reading

I found a Western bluebird nest just a stone’s throw from my house. Unfortunately it’s on a very busy street and I like look a weirdo with my telephoto lens 🤷‍♂️ #birds #birding

Hamataliwa grisea, Bark Lynx spider (I think). I love that even in the poor state it’s in my yard has macrophoto subjects. Just means as I get natives planted there will be even more. #macrophotography #spider

Paph. Gina Short finally blooming after a two year break. My orchids had a hard time adapting after a cross country move and I lost quite a few. My collection went from 150 to 20. #orchids #paphiopedilum

Found a few lifers on my trip. This is actually a pair of bee flies mating but one is hidden behind the other. #macrophotography #insects #inverts

Chamaebatia foliolosa, Mountain Misery. I recently discovered there is a Chamaebatia species native to Southern CA and I would love to have some in my garden. Doesn’t seem any nurseries have it though. #wildflowers #nativeplants

After searching for years with no luck, I finally found a snow plant. It was not quite fully unfurled but still beautiful. Only 2 to go and I will have photographed every mycoheterotrophic plant in the USA.

Spent several days in Yosemite National Park and surrounding areas. For the first time in many months I felt myself relax. I want to go back already. #森林浴

Porcupine tomato grows so leggy regardless of how much pruning I do. It’s such an oddball but I love it. #gardening

Found a male and a female snakefly in my yard today. I've never seen them before so it was pretty cool to get both in one day. #macrophotography #insects

This should definitely not be growing in S. CA but I couldn’t just give up. I brought it all the way across the country in a move. It spends Winter in the fridge crisper drawer. #garden #aroid

Echinocereus knippelianus are very cute even when not in flower. Their spines are very soft and flexible and feel like the bristles of a nylon brush. #cacti #succulents #terracottapots
