I usually advice students not to use it (for many reasons), but I also think that this double standard (that never addresses systemic issues) is creating more harm than anything.

From my experience, students use it because they have to balance university with a low wage job, some are also international students who pay a higher fee while also struggling to meet uni expectations. Anyway, AI is sometimes the easiest solution for them.

I'm studying (and teaching) in Quebec and there's also a double standard I rarely see mentioned. I see more and more teachers integrating AI tools, while admin is punishing students who use chat gpt for their assignments without addressing why they might use it.
