I've been having a good month on Catfishing.net. 😊
A display of my top ten scores relative to other players on Catfishing.net, ranging from my being in the top 0.3% to the top 2%. Four of my top five (and five of the top ten) were from this month, October 2025. A stat block below shows that I have played 344 days (most of them after the fact; in addition to playing daily, I'm working my way backward through the archive) and have an average score of 4.7 out of 10. (The global average is 3.6.)

I spent this morning sending a notice of my stance on AI to all my clients.
After a recent experience with a different client—which I think I can safely characterize as involving an unpleasant surprise for both sides—I would like to note the following for the record: If you hire me, you get artisanal human-powered proofreading, copyediting, and/or research. I do not use generative AI for any aspect of my work, and, conversely, I will not agree to work on any project that’s involved generative AI in any way (whether in its initial creation or in a prior editorial pass).

I preordered signed copies of @lenniesaurus.bsky.social's books back at the start of April, and I hadn't been sure if the tarriff changes between then and now would put the kibosh on that, but apparently the parcel is now in the post! It's very exciting.
An email from The Portobello Bookshop informing me that my item—signed and dedicated copies of "poyums annaw" and the original "poyums"—has been shipped, and that I can track its progress using the Royal Mail's tracking system.

In the U.S., at least, the World Almanac is still going, and we're working on the 2026 edition right now! (I have similar memories of childhood almanac trawling, and I am still delighted that I get to work on them. 😊)

Okay, I admit that the pride in finishing my first cross-stitching project was blunted a bit when I hit the line in the instructions saying that I should get an adult to help me iron it, but whatever, this is a cute kitten.

Post a book you love from the 1970s!
Cover of "The Secret in Miranda's Closet," by Sheila Greenwald (expurgated Scholastic edition), from 1977. The titular Miranda—probably 11 years old, give or take a year—is the daughter of Olivia, a Second Wave feminist scholar and single mom. Miranda is always being foisted on Olivia’s friends and acquaintances while her mom goes around giving lectures and working and whatnot. At one such stay, she discovers an old bisque doll in the attic, falls in love with it, and is given it as a present. She then sets out to create a proper dollhouse for the doll, whose name is Dinah; in doing so, she meets a bunch of new people and displays a fine independent streak. But Olivia knows none of this; Olivia can never know any of this. One of Olivia’s favorite anecdotes is about how Miranda herself spurned the (cheap plastic) dolls she was offered as a child in favor of more interesting trucks. Why did this resonate with me as a kid? More specifically, as a trans kid being raised as a boy in an ideologically charged environment with strictly defined gender roles, who was also an independent kid who liked dolls? It's a complete mystery.
