I mean, it just depends on what the discourse of the author is. People are very rude about J. K. Rowling b/c she’s transphobic. SJM used a black womensdeath to promote her book, is a Zonist (which seeps in her books), and has some subtle but harmful portrayals of poc in the acotar and tog series.
