We invite area writers to create new work that interrogates the idea of adaptation, its catalysts and consequences, both good and bad.

Contributors will be paid $100 and given further opportunities to share their work and receive additional pay.

She is the Educational Promotions Manager for African Poetry Book Fund, and an Associate Editor of Prairie Schooner. Marguerite is a PhD student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her work focuses on African American and African Diasporic poetry, ecology, folklore, culture, social justice.

Marguerite L. Harrold is a poet and writer from Chicago. Her first book, Chicago House Music: Culture and Community was short listed for Best Non-Fiction Book of the Year 2024 by Chicago Review of Books & for Outstanding Book on the History of Chicago 2025, by the Union League Club of Chicago.

We ask the writer to provide a writing sample and information on the project they will be doing at this retreat. We provide this space for a writer to work on a project already in progress.
