There are 3,300 fewer newspapers across the U.S. and 45,000 fewer journalists than there were in 2005, which means more secrecy across the country, according to a new study from @brechnerfoi.bsky.social.

As someone noted, one big reason Brazil survived Bolsonaro was that it had a functional, uncorrupted Supreme Court
Kavanaugh's statements make the problem worse, not better. If the reason SCOTUS is using cryptic shadow docket orders is because "five" of them can't "reach a consensus or a compromise on a particular issue that might be difficult," then that order should not be precedential —there's no majority.
Brett Kavanaugh says there’s a good reason Supreme Court rulings can sometimes be so cryptic
In remarks to a judicial conference, Kavanaugh also defended Chief Justice John Roberts.

In an era where truth is treated as treason, NPR dons its armour and goes to war against Trump's executive order. A lawsuit not just for funding, but for the freedom of the press. A battle waged not in ink, but in principles. The pen mightier than the sword, indeed. #3E

US farmers sold $2 billion of food to USAID. Not any more.

- US farmers provided 41% of food delivered by USAID
- $340M of purchases/shipments are now paused. Over 680,000 tonnes.
- Food stranded in Houston
- Aid stopped in transit.

The world’s poor starving, food rotting & US farmers screwed.
Gutting USAID threatens billions of dollars for U.S. farms, businesses
U.S. businesses that sold goods and services to USAID are in limbo, including American farms dealing in rice, wheat and soybeans.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre spent Monday evening at his $1,750-per-plate fundraiser hosted at a mansion so large it has its own postal code.

Oh, and the guy who owns that place?

Yeah, looks like he profits from privatized healthcare facilities in the United States.

Let's talk about it:

Watching the party leader debase himself with bug-brained conspiracy theories is embarrassing. But this is, unfortunately, a core part of the Conservative party strategy these days.
