Re earlier comment...Patrick McGoohan also created the dystopian TV series The Prisoner...I became a cult-follower and joined "The Prisoner club" in my high school and wore campy buttons. I recommend the show (which sounds similar to your Columbo episode in a way), even if it's >50 years old.

Don't know the answer; but it's not a bad adjustment that we would have to make, IMHO. Many prepositions are a bear for English-language learners. Folks must memorize the myriad (and rather random) prepositional phrases. For example, we get "on" the bus but "into" or "in" the car.
