Saluting our veterans: On this #VeteransDay, we acknowledge the men and women, locally and from across the country, who served our country honorably in the various branches of the armed forces. @MtnViewCA will honor its own #veterans at a ceremony today in Eagle Park, 650 Franklin St., 11:00am.

Gilded in @MtnViewCA: More than 80 people turned out for our November 2 history event at the MV #library. Author Nancy Unger (pictured) gave a talk titled “More than Orchards: MV in the Gilded Age 1880-1920.” The presentation delved into the economic, political and societal forces of those decades.

Read it like you mean it! Today is #NationalBookshopDay, when America celebrates its beloved local purveyors of the printed word. Books, Inc. downtown @MtnView was originally located at 301 Castro St. in a building erected in the 1940s, until the store moved just a few doors south. @BooksIncStores

History always draws a crowd: The MVHA had a really nice turnout for our annual meeting at the Historic Adobe Building in @MtnViewCA, where our talk, “Disasters in Mountain View: Earthquakes, Fires and Plane Crashes,” kept that crowd’s attention. Oh, and the ice cream afterward couldn't have hurt!

Neither sleet nor snow nor... Today is #NationalPostalWorker Day, honoring those who deliver our letters and packages. One local postal carrier, John Barney (pictured) lost his leg in in an accident the 1880s, yet he continued working, delivering parcels to @MtnView families along his 25-mile route.
