I gave this to my sister a while back, and read it properly at th weekend when I visited - similar effect. It details events from 2016 ... nothing changed other than maybe everything even more awful, but the individual stories are so compelling

I doubt if they have read Orwell, so maybe worth pointing out that the jumped-up, self-aggrandising, hypermasculinist delusions of Cartman in South Park probably weren't meant as an instruction manual either.
