The Preppy is an underappreciated gem. Works like a charm, reliable, and goes a long time without needing a clean. At such a low price point, it's a great way to explore nib sizes when you're starting out. Loved it as a gateway pen.

I really recommend starting with cheaper pens and finding out exactly what you like and don't like. One will lead to another and another -- let the story unfold over time. Don't rush to try everything at once.

Had some fun discovering Chinese pens. Reasonable quality for the price and I found the wait for the slow boat from China to be kinda fun. Some stayed in my rotation but many didn't.

Until recently, I had about ten pens at a time inked up but I'm frankly getting tired of all the cleaning. My go-to pens are Opus 88 Jazz (quite large) and Gravitas Sentry in copper (very heavy). I also love my Lamy Studio. None of these were cheap.
