All that being said, the parts of the wicked movie that DID come from the original script were fantastic

Stage musicals don't have the luxury of 5 hours to tell their stories, so those stories are COMPACT. And I think that makes them a lot more fun to watch

You don't learn ANYTHING from the song with Idina and Kristen, so it shouldn't be there. You don't learn anything from Elphaba falling for almost a whole minute. Cut it.

Wicked doesn't do this. There is so much dialogue in Defying gravity that the people around me were complaining. And almost none of that dialogue is in the stage musical.

Every scene is so densely packed with information. Any dialogue that repeats something you already learned in a song is unnecessary and then cut.

A stage musical understands that it has three hours at the MOST to tell a whole story with at least 15 songs.
