But the idea that their king would get down on his knees and fellate another man? That is something they cannot possibly condone. It's too submissive, too sensitive, too WOMANISH for the toxic masculinity that has become their golden calf.

And in their idealized world order, the function of women--and girls--is to serve such a man. If he has appetites, it's either their job to a) fulfill them or b) not exist in such a way as to tempt him. Either way, he's not responsible for his actions where they're concerned.

And this is why they love Trump, for all that he is a soft city slicker who wears makeup and a toupee. He's the ruthless CEO ruling the boardroom, who never minces words or apologizes and takes crap from nobody.

This is why Evangelicalism has such a disconnect from the Gospel. All that "love thy neighbor" and "feed the poor" stuff? Too soft, too feminine. Their Jesus is a man's man who was too much of a BAMF to kill and who will one day lay waste to His (read: their) enemies.

The far right--and in particular the Evangelical right--have a very specific masculine ideal: strong, solitary, emotionally distant. The lone cowboy taming the frontier. The brave soldier charging the enemy lines. The stern, disciplinary patriarch.

Yes, OF COURSE coercing minors into sex is infinitely worse and more illegal that two adult men engaging in a little oral. Any sane person will tell you that.

But that's not the issue here. The issue is how his base will feel about it.
