“I need to write music to fit a certain mood. Ooh, maybe a bed of soft bowed electric-guitar sound design, and a nice pulsing sub-bass, and these breathy violin flautandos, maybe some tinkling celesta arpeggios in the background …

“Oh. Should probably add a melody. Uhhh … doo do-do doo doo …”

Update: All my accounts were reinstated at some point in the last couple days. (I say “at some point” ’cause I only just noticed when I checked on a whim. Didn’t get any emails or anything.)

Apparently a bunch of folks who got swept up in the recent ban wave are getting unbanned.
Seems Xitter is cracking down on third-party apps tonight, ’cause all my accounts – which I accessed through OldTweetDeck – just got permanently suspended simultaneously for “inauthentic behavior”. Lol.

I mainly lurked there, since *so many* peeps I follow still haven’t moved to Bluesky. 😔

Ooh, I don’t think I’ve heard you do a piece that wasn’t a piano solo. Intrigued!

Equally terrifying addendum:

Only VST2 plugins supported.

(Seriously, Avid, add VST3 support to Sibelius already. It’s over 15 years old, and most new plugins are VST3-only. Are you waiting until Sibelius users can’t use any new plugins at all?)

Transcribing sheet music with 20+ staves and absolutely no instrument names (and sometimes not even instrument group brackets) is FUN, lemme tell ya.

SO MUCH FUN.

Sincere question: Why the complete redesign on the logo? Why not just modernize the existing one, such as with a cleaner, simpler headphone & sine-wave waveform between the earcups? It would look nicer than the slightly janky current logo, whilst retaining the recognizable branding.
October 4, 2025 at 9:28 PM
I really hope it’s a rejected design they’ll discuss in the video. Can’t tell if it’s meant to be a curved note, a misshapen ‘A’, or a mutated Among Us character.

The existing logo is iconic. It looks neat + is widely known and instantly recognizable. Why would anyone throw that branding away?

Jebus. Maybe I’m just lucky, but I’ve never encountered that kind of garbage in person. Those idiots don’t deserve you.

I wouldn’t be surprised lol

This is what happens when a composer operates with nobody to tell them NO. STOP THAT. BAD MICHAEL. NO MORE PUNS.

Yep. And the sweeping, uplifting theme that I woulda thought was the Friendship Theme (most notably plays during Nick’s ZPA graduation ceremony at the end) also plays when Judy leaves Bunnyburrow by train at the start, long before she even meets Nick.

Maybe he was just trying to represent feels.

Someone’s GOT to pay for that 😒

If Omni does it, their score books usually start out with a quick interview where they get the composer’s thoughts on what the themes represent and how they work and all that.

If so … maybe they can finally take Giacchino to account for his abuse of punny track titles >:D
September 13, 2025 at 8:38 PM
The only theme I’m reasonably certain about is what I call the Hustle Theme – might also be known as Nick’s Theme, but really it plays anytime either of them are being clever or conning/outwitting someone else
September 13, 2025 at 8:24 PM
I hope one day we get an Omni score book release for ‘Zootopia’ … both to see that crazy instrumentation, and also cuz I’m dying to know what the themes actually represent 😄

(Since they don’t seem to cleanly represent either specific characters or specific themes, like “friendship” or “adventure”)

Personally I think making one regular version and one musical version of each movie would be the ideal, as someone who isn’t necessarily a fan of most musicals. This way – a regular movie, and a musical theatrical adaptation – we all get the best of both worlds.

Nice. Wish it were that straightforward in Sibelius 🥲
