A number of artists and creators have made their home on Bluesky, and we hear their concerns with other platforms training on their data. We do not use any of your content to train generative AI, and have no intention of doing so.

There are many other ways to impact magic but the key things are to set out your rules early. What you want to achieve and how much do you want to change to get there?

Finally, is it worth it?

What about its origins? What if Magic wasn't an energy coursing through the world but it was physical. Diamonds revive due to the structure of the material. The friction of different materials cause the magic to surface.

For example, what if Magic physically altered its user? The type of magic has different manifestations and people could easily distinguish ordinary people from magic users. The more extreme the transformation the more powerful the user.

These kind of questions root magics place in the world and can really change its vibes but more importantly if we really want to change the flavour we can change aspects of Magic itself.

For example:

- What is the attitude towards magic users? Are they feared or revered?
- Diamonds are used to revive people so who controls the diamond supply?
- Is it only the privileged that have access to magic?
- Are powerful magic users in power?

So! I figure we can impact the flavour of magic through its external impact and it's origin.

And it's easy to do this if we change the social and economic impact of magic.

Self-imposed rule two: it should be flexible enough for players to put their own spin on it for their characters.

This also means that, in tandem, to rule one it needs to support all the classes/subclasses and flavour they bring.

That rule leaves us room to add on top of the rules but this should be lightweight at best. The narrative and flavour should do the heavy lifting here. I don't have the will or the energy to build a new system or unbalance a game even more.

First off, the magic system in D&D is very rigid and has (mostly) clear rules to how it works. So, how do we put a unique spin on this?

I didn't want to force players to relearn a game they've been playing for years.

So that was rule one: the existing mechanics cannot change.
