I need to have the first sentence figured out before I can begin.

I know that seems redundant, but what I mean is I can’t have some fluff or “good enough” sentence; I can’t jump to a later place and come back afterwards. That first sentence determines the entire rest of the story for me.

#mlp fanfic authors, what are some arbitrary rules you hold yourselves to in fic writing? Like I for example refuse to write a story that is "just" romance - I HAVE to come up with more of a plot. Why? No reason, of course. Just like giving myself little challenges 🫠
