I like being onsite, because of the routine it implies and the social connection. But it also locks people in to a place, and reduces mobility. So maybe "retention" isn't really the right word.

At my company, we still pay most of this tax, because teams are distributed across offices. And our incredibly high ratio of managers to ICs is from before the pandemic, when everyone was in the office.
