I’m on the same track with Proust. I read 1Q84 by Murakami and it romanticized reading In Search of Lost Time for me, but didn’t make it through the first volume. I’ve since read Ulysses (in uni, glad I was forced to) and now I think I have the tool kit to approach it through the right lens
