Suburban Gothic is back, baby, and in fine style - I have a lot of spoilerific thoughts about 'Weapons', but found it tremendously enjoyable and v well constructed - see it with a crowd if you can.

Murderland by Caroline Fraser - as gripping as any horror novel & beautifully written. Central thesis explores relationship between industrial pollution & the serial murder 'epidemic'.

Now on @Shudder 'Best Wishes to All' is pretty great, and also serves as a kind of uncredited adaptation of one of the most impactful genre short stories ever written (but to say which one would give it away).

Did not expect so much of the first part of this beast of a book to be about academic conference attendance. Engrossing. Also intrigued by seemingly minor references to horror works (such as Ring).

Finally getting round to reading 'Piranesi', cautiously intrigued at about 30 pages in (no spoilers please)!

It's coming up to that time of year when I hope I'll be invited to spend the summer relaxing at a reputedly haunted house. Meals provided, great weather and new pals, the odd seance what's not to love?

I have a real soft spot for hilariously misleading 1970s paperback blurbs. Anyone want to guess what Jackson novel this supposedly refers to?

I wasn't 100% sold on this to begin with - which is v possibly my own fault as I've had to engage with lots of cannibalism/folk horror related material this year and elements initially seemed overly familiar - but it comes together really beautifully & hauntingly in the end.
