Slushpile thoughts: a lot of newer writers would benefit from being more intentional in their metaphors.

A metaphor is not just a vibe. It needs to make semantic sense in order to function — the purpose is to offer some kind of clarity, not to obfuscate.

My god the woe is me royalty trope whatever its called has gone too far, if you hate your position so much abdicate! A whole chapter of this character internally monologuing about how HARD their life is and how much they hate women is driving me nuts and its not compelling

The number of times I'm finding flat out bad grammar or like incorrect word usage in books recently, what is happening? How are publishers expecting people to buy these books when it feels like little to no line editing has happened, why am I catching an example every other paragraph...

There was a book announced and it was by a somali author and it was about these two alt lives (one being a world where her parents never emigrated away from Somalia) it sounded so good but I cannot find the name anywhere I just wanna see if it came out yet😭😭
