A really pretty original character drawn by Ishida-sensei. Really pretty lady! Tiara, Lena, Kagetsu, Sara, Japolo, and Leon from Shamanic Princess. Absolutely drop-dead gorgeous artwork, if you ask me. Tiara, Japolo and Lena in the foreground, and Tiara and Kagetsu in the background, designed for Shamanic Princess. Presumably, the planet above the girls is the Guardian World, where they all come from. Tiara and Lena from Shamanic Princess. This is presumably designed when Episodes 3 and 4 were in production, given that possessed!Lena is present, alongside Yord!Tiara above regular Tiara and Lena.

A real gorgeous artist here, folks. I know them best for the character designs are very comedic anime, but don't let the comedy dissuade you! The stakes can get high.

And just between you and me, but the best humor works with the dark stuff.
Yurika Misumaru from Kidou Senkan Nadesico. The flowers are presumably nadeshiko flowers. All of the different Eclairs, from Kiddy Grade. All of the different Lumieres from Kiddy Grade. A number of characters from Bakuretsu Hunters: Chocolate and Tira Misu, Carrot and Marron Glace, and finally Gateau Mocha! (Yes, their names are all food stuffs-inspired. Now I'm hungry >.=.<;;;)

Was playing Doom 2 earlier, and when I got to Tricks and Traps, I came across this.

Whoo, classic artist here folks- for anyone who has ANY passing animanga knowledge, they'd know Takeuchi as Sailor Moon's mangaka- and quite a progressive woman in her own right.

Also, did you know she reads SM fanfiction? That's awesome.
The Inner Scouts + Tuxedo Kamen! Rei is depicted with red hair, and Usagi has her silver hair. The Outers + Chibi-Usa and Sailor Cosmos! Haruka is depicted with platinum blonde hair. Black Lady, the evil version of Chibi-Usa from the Black Moon arc. This particular piece is inspired HEAVILY by a OPIUM-brand perfume advertisement. The Inner Senshi in swimsuits, all catered to their themes and tastes. Need I remind you that Miss Takeuchi is a fan of haute couture fashion?

This is a blast from the past, literally! One of the founding fathers of the Madhouse studio, his character designs are the epitome of 80s-90s flair. Just be aware that he doesn't do much of it anymore.

And his designs can be same-y.
Remi Masuda and Meril 'Benten' Yanagawa, from Cyber City Oedo 808. This is the laserdisc cover for the 3rd OVA which focuses on them. Kyouya Izayoi and Sayaka Rama, from Demon City Shinjuku. Kyouya's ready to fight with a bokuto, or a wooden practice sword. Makie, from Wicked City. Her nails are glowing and extended- its part of her power. This is before it is revealed her amplified power output is due to her pregnancy. Leila Marcus, raising a very unique mug at the viewer. Part of Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, an anime film released in English first, THEN dubbed into Japanese.

The 'king of cyberpunk', Masamune Shirow is quite the inspiration! Just be aware that he's horny at times & has quite the fashion and technology sense, despite the characters looking oily.

Ah, the sci-fi themes return! Designer of a couple of characters from Tekkaman and the sadly color-limited Bounty Dog, this artist knows how to stick with a theme and run with it!

His work also indirectly inspired my sentai team.
Miyuki Aiba / Tekkaman Rapier above four evil Tekkamen. She is one of the most tragic characters of Tekkaman out there, considering her illness and her incomplete conversion. A plethora of Tekkaman Blade II characters, designed by Sano. On one side, we have Tekkaman Dead, Tekkaman Hyver, Tekkaman Vesna, and Tekkaman Sommer. In the center, we have Dead End, Tekkaman Dead's true self. And on the other side, is David Krueger, Yumi Francois, Natasha Pablochiva, Aki Kisaragi, and D-Boy. A cover for one of the Bounty Dog OVAs. Shown are Ines, Yoshiyuki Otomo, Shoko Uzuki, and Kei Mimura. Despite the lovely amount of color use on this, the actual anime itself seems fixated on a monochrome aesthetic, which is one of the negatives I have against this. Watch it for the story.

The forefather of violence and erotic themes in anime and manga, he is clearly a revolutionary man! One of my favorite works from him would be the Cutie Honey franchise, alongside Devilman.

Don't be fooled, his works can and will likely be dark!

Artist: Kia Asamiya (real name Michitaka Kikuchi)

A creator of various stories spanning several genres, I know Asamiya-sensei best for Sonic Soldier Borgman and Silent Mobius. Also the artist of the Nadesico manga, which has it's own continuity!

Love his style.

This artist has an exquisite style, and they excel at the fantasy and sci-fi aesthetic. Known pieces of media this artist worked on are as follows: Record of Lodoss War, and Escaflowne.

I classify them as inspiration for my own work.

Sapphy's Character Design Rambles:
Origins: Top wo Nerae! Gunbuster
Characters: Noriko Takaya, Kazumi Amano, Kochiro Oota

These character designs are definitely a relic of their time, but they work wonderfully! These characters show their personalities and skill levels with the good use of shapes.
The settei of Noriko Takaya from the bust up- she is main character of Gunbuster (Top wo Nerae!). She has more rounder features, making her look younger and less experienced. The settei of Kazumi Oota (back when she was Kazumi Amano). She is the deuteragonist of Gunbuster. Her facial shape is sharper, but it has some of the roundness of Noriko, making her a perfect in-between. The settei of Kochiro Oota. He is the coach of Noriko Takaya and Kazumi Amano (later Kazumi's husband.) His sharp facial shape makes him clearly experienced- if the scarred eye didn't already give it away.
