Classics at the Crossroads Conference Classics &/in Africa July 3-4, 2025 University College London This conference is intended to facilitate a flexible and open-ended dialogue, where Africa is at once the focus of research and the site of current disciplinary praxis—it both invites contributions on Classics and Africa and on lines of research currently pursued in Africa. Keynote Presentation: A Reading from Femi Osofisan’s Medaayé, overseen by the playwright in collaboration with Olakunbi Olasope, ‘Tunde Awosanmi, and Heavy Wind Media. Department of Classics Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Teaching Term Appointment: 9-Month Position Number: F99789 The Department of Classics at Memorial University is hiring a 9-month, teaching-term appointment for the Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 semesters. The successful candidate will have expertise in ancient Greek history and Greek culture more generally. Teaching responsibilities will consist of six classes over the two terms, including courses on Greek history, Classics and popular culture, and introductory ancient Greek. Applicants should highlight any teaching and research expertise that aligns with these teaching areas, or other relevant educational and professional experiences that make them well-suited to teaching these types of courses. In most cases, the successful candidate will have a completed PhD in Classics or status as a Doctoral Candidate (i.e., "ABD"). Applicants must submit: 1. a curriculum vitae, 2. letter of interest outlining relevant teaching and/or research experience, and 3. the names and contact information of three referees.
